GIVE ME WHAT YOU'VE GOT [07 Oct 2008|01:48pm]
I'm putting together a booklet! It'll be something like a zine, but maybe a one-time deal (depending on funds).

I want your work! Poetry, short-short stories, prose poems, photos, drawings, paintings, doodles, pages from your favorite coloring book, lyrics, leaves, recipes, instructions, particularly intriguing grocery lists, anything.
Give us what you've got!

There's talk of a possible CD component, so if you've got music, recorded poetry, talk radio episodes, secret conversations you've acquired through the hidden mic in your coat pocket, send those too.

Send it on over.

So, I'm in Schoharie (Sko-hairy) NY, staying at a Holiday Inn Express. The landscape's beautiful, the hotel's fine, I just sent my little brother off to college. Blah blah blah.

What I wanted to say is this. When you walk into this hotel, you see an ad, "Have your wedding at the Holiday Inn Express!", full of the usual pictures (couple in gazebo, hands clasped, looking at each other smiling/bride at the moment just before she pushes cake into groom's face/groom placing ring on bride's finger).
Just beneath, on one of those custom-message-boards, it reads,

If you can't dazzle
them with
baffle them
with bull."

I'm in the most beautiful place I've ever been. Staying on the top of a large hill, tucked into the Irish landscape, above the Atlantic Ocean...

I haven't been skinny dipping in a long time. It's nice.

I had a lot of fun at Commencement.

And I'm a little sentimental right now. About graduating, I mean.

I mean, yeah, I'm feeling sentimental. I'm going to miss this place, and these people.

Summer's beginning in the most refreshing, beautiful, simple ways.

I hope to have a great collection of seashells by the time it's over.

This is what a party means. [04 Mar 2008|02:28pm]
Things Gone From The Apartment After This Weekend's Party:
1. My iPod
2. My massive quantities of Eclipse and Dentyne Ice
3. A picture of Gonzalo as a child, in a buff-yellow suit and bowtie, one eye scrunched up, which was previously hanging on the refrigerator

Strangely, I was more upset to find out about the gum than the iPod. Also, the fact that someone took #3 might make up for 1 and 2. The ridiculousness of it all.

Things Still Left At the Apartment:
1. Roman's suitcase, hard drive, and Falafel Mix
2. 2 full bottles of liquor
3. A post-it-note on my mirror that reads "Who's the dopest of them all?"

1. How is Aimee Bender so unfuckingbelievably good? She writes perfect stories. They're these perfect morsels of life, of writing, of patterns of speech, of details. She's so great.
2. I've been remembering my dreams every night for weeks. I'm enjoying this. Last night I dreamt I got a new puppy and I named it Simon.
3. I wouldn't name it Simon. Jack for a boy, Clementine for a girl. Those are my dog names.
4. Being around happy people makes everything a little happier.
5. Saw my first Parker House & Theory show last night. It was a freaking blast. A blast!
6. I'm very thirsty and I need a nap.
7. What sound do you most like to hear when someone pokes your nose? I like "boop".
8. I'm now negotiating with my mother, telling her if they get a new puppy maybe I'll stay in New York next year rather than vamoose for New Mexico.
9. I think it might just work.

Leap! [01 Jan 2008|02:30pm]
I feel full of boundless happiness. I am so grateful. My past week has been so wonderful I feel like I could leap across continents. New Years was a celebration of such enormous joyful proportions. Thank you, life. Thank you, friends. I love I love I love.

Happy New Year, everyone.

I just did that facial recognition test, on myHeritage.com, where you upload a picture and they tell you what celebrity matches your face most accurately. I got Shirley Temple. 86% similar. Shirley Temple as a little kid.

The Little Mute Boy [04 Dec 2007|06:12pm]
Federico Garcia Lorca
trans. WS Merwin

The little boy was looking for his voice.
(The king of the crickets had it.)
In a drop of water
the little boy was looking for his voice.

I do not want it for speaking with;
I will make a ring of it
so that he may wear my silence
on his little finger

In a drop of water
the little boy was looking for his voice.

(The captive voice, far away,
put on a cricket's clothes.)

Next year I want to move to New Mexico in a small house with a backyard. I want to go to a shelter and get a puppy. I want to have a studio where I can throw paint around if I want, and a nice desk to write on, and I want to get a job as a cashier or a waitress or something in a nice little place.

Not that I've ever been to New Mexico.

But that's the plan for now.

1. Lucid dream two nights ago, I chose to fly and have sex and rearrange furniture at the point of a finger.
2. Lost my mind a little bit in the midst of a date. Date noticed, I'm sure. This was a lucky break.
3. Parents were in this weekend. We went to a jazz club and ate lots of delicious food.
4. Last night I dreamt I could speak to the dead. I wish I could.
5. Finally finished unpacking my bedroom.
6. My family members send me all these forwards with inspirational stories and pictures of dogs in costumes and things like that. Today, I received a forward with pictures of a puppy born in northern Japan who has a heart-shaped spot on its back. This, I think, summarizes every single forward my family sends me.
7. I'm stalling on this paper.
8. I'll be in Arizona for a week in December. In Sedona. If anyone else will be around there, let me know.
9. Adam gave me a book of Nabokov's selected letters. I'm so excited to read it, when I'm done with this Hawthorne/Dickinson paper.
10. I've been taking vitamins.
11. I'm still in my pajamas.
12. If I could stay in my room for the next week straight, I think I'd do it. Sometimes I feel like my room floats in the middle of nowhere. It's nice to imagine that if I opened my door for the next week, absolutely nothing would be outside it. It would just be me in this little room with my books and my music and a box of old photos to look through.
13. I'm seeing the Magnetic Fields in February. I don't remember being this excited for a show since freshman year of college.

Life: An Update [21 Oct 2007|10:56am]
1. I'm in Florida right now, in my Grandma's apartment which we are going to rent to an unknown lady for four months
2. My father's father is dying and I'm going to see him for the last time today and bring him a cake. We aren't close at all, but I'm more upset about it than I thought I'd be.
3. I'm writing 4 stories right now, I have ideas for about 7.
4. This is good because I'll be doing my BFA thesis next semester
5. Long-distance phone calls
6. The Hop has been cozy, and the porch-filled life feels luxurious
7. I'm going to miss Emerson. I'm starting to feel tenderness towards Boston (this is what knowing I will leave something soon does to me.)
8. For Halloween I'm thinking Mary Poppins is a possibility. But if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm completely open to them
9. I'm unfulfilled, but basically busy busy busy so who has time to notice?
10. There are these elderly golfers out the window and they seem so content to be doing what they're doing.
11. I have to pack for Boston now.
